Health and Fitness


Introduction:

Health and fitness are very important to lead a comfortable life or we will have “Aah ooh” in the house all through the year. Basically, there are three things that are important to be healthy. We need to have a good diet, we need to maintain hygiene and we need daily exercise.

Diet:

Diet is a very important part to be healthy. We should have a healthy diet containing good things. By eating healthy things and having a balanced diet, we can always be healthy.

Hygiene:

Hygiene is important so that we can be safe from diseases. Hygiene can be achieved from cleanliness in one way. It can be achieved in other ways too.

Exercise:

Exercise is a method of maintaining fitness. It is a way in which physical effort is used to build flexibility etc. It also increases our immunity and endurance.

Five physical components:

Although diet, hygiene and exercise are the three main things to be healthy and fit, there are essentially five other fitness components. The five fitness components:
Cardiovascular fitness
Muscular strength
Muscular endurance
Body composition
Flexibility.

Cardiovascular fitness:

Cardiovascular fitness is the ability of the heart, lungs and the vascular system to pump oxygen rich blood throughout the body to working muscles at times of physical activities.
If you are not cardiovascularly fit, then you will have breathlessness etc. at times of playing sport.

Muscular strength:

This is the amount of force that a muscle or a group of many muscles can exert against a huge resistance.
Muscular strength is important while playing many sports.

Muscular endurance:

This is the ability of a muscle or a group of many muscles to repeat a movement of the muscle many times or let the muscle in a position for a long time.
Muscular endurance is very important in sports like gymnastics.

Body composition:

Body composition is the amount of fat in the body compared to the lean mass fat which includes muscle fat and body fat etc.
Body composition is important to have a proper body structure to be fit for any sport.

Flexibility:

This component can be defined as the degree to which a particular muscle can lengthen (How much a muscle can lengthen)
Flexibility is important in any sport as our muscles should stretch in games like basketball to score a basket.

Why is exercise important?:

Exercise is very important because it improves our body structure, our appearance and our fitness. It also keeps us healthy. 6 main things why exercise is important are:
Prevents diseases
Improves Stamina
Builds strength and endurance
Enhances Flexibility
Controls weight
Improves quality of life

Why is diet important?:

Diet is important because healthy and balanced meals have different kinds of vitamins and minerals which our body needs to stay healthy and fit. If we really want to be fit, diet should be without junk even after a healthy and balanced meal.

Why is hygiene important?:

Good hygiene is important because if you do not maintain hygiene you can carry germs of different diseases causing you to fall ill. Also, if you do not maintain hygiene and there is no cleanliness you can transfer your illnesses and diseases to others. Bad hygiene can lead to suffering of the whole society.

When to do what kind of exercise?:

There are different types of exercises that can be done at different times. Morning exercises improves our overall fitness and also increases our immunity.
Exercises are also done before playing sports and after sports to improve flexibility of all muscles and stopping lactic acid from growing in the body respectively.

Exercises:

Stretching exercises
Alternate toe touch, four touch, muscle rotations etc.

Jumping exercises
High jump, jumping on spot, alternate jumping, side-to-side jumping, back-and-forth jumping etc.

Normal diet:

Diet is important to be healthy. Along with a good and balanced diet we should have regular intervals of food. Normally we have food in four times of the day- As breakfast in the morning, as lunch in the afternoon, as snack in the evening and as dinner in night.
It is equally important to see that all the time not only junk food but also healthy food should be going into our body. Although junk food is OK in small quantities, it is better not to eat.
